07/29/2010 Role Players Help US Military Practice for Nuclear Bomb Attack

MUTC, Butlerville, Indiana - The U.S. Army recently held a series of training exercises in Indiana, to teach troops how to react if a small nuclear bomb, set off by terrorists, were to hit an American city.  The exercises included crowd control, medical care and rubble removal.  Helping to make the mock scenarios especially realistic were the people hired to play the roles of survivors.
And the soldiers appreciate the role players' efforts.  In one part of the exercise, the mock survivors are being decontaminated.  Lieutenant Zacharia Davis, an army nurse, treats their wounds before they go through the process. "They're pretty good. That's kind of the goal - they want to simulate real casualties, give us really good training," he said.

Cape Cod Times:
HYANNIS - "The importance of having role players during training is so that soldiers get the experience of having to deal with civilians in the particular region," said Lt. Col. Jack McKenna, a spokesman for the Guard. The role players are taught Iraqi and Afghan phrases and wear clothing from those countries. "That realism adds to the training."

9/25/2008 Local couple helps prepare soldiers for Iraq

Fort Stewart, Ga -The Teagues are among the hundred or so cultural role players supporting the post-mobilization training of the National Guard and Army Reserve Soldiers deploying out of Fort Stewart. The role players provide vital realistic human interactions with the Soldiers.

“Cultural role players help us create the context of the environment Arrowhead soldiers will operate in,” said Col. George Geczy, III, commander of the 188th Infantry Brigade, the First Army Division East unit responsible for the 56th IBCT post-mobilization training team. “They may be training inside the Georgia pines, but they are operating on the same human terrain because of our great role players.”
